Hannes Wettstein was born in 1958, in Ascona, Switzerland. In 2001, after working with various companies, design studios and ateliers, he founded “Zed”, his own studio, a scenario which would allow him to bring his creative talents to different fields from industrial design to architecture, to concept work in the world of communication and the media. Many of the objects he has designed, such as furniture, lamps, bicycles, watches and clocks have become classics. Featuring among his best-known interiors are the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Berlin, the Swiss Embassy in Washington DC and several shops, showrooms and exhibition areas. Wettstein has received numerous international awards for design, including the “Compasso d’Oro ADI” (1994 – 2004), the “Good Design Chicago” (1995 – 2004), and the “Red Dot Award” (2005). Over the years he has worked with important companies such as Cassina, Molteni, Ventura, Zeiss, Baleri, Arflex, Est, Revox, Shimano, Artemide, Alessi and Brionvega, where he has been art director since 2003. He has worked as a lecturer at several Design Institutes in Italy and Germany, including the School of Design in Karlsruhe (Germany), where he taught from 1994 to 2001.
